Cyberbullying & Sexting

There was a workshop presentation that was held at UNT-DALLAS  based on CYBERBULLYING AND SEXTING. Which are the most important factors in todays society, especially when dealing with children around the world.  The presentation was mainly focused on the cases of students who had been either bullied or damaged emotionally through texting. The presentation made me realize that if we as future educator don't make a difference now in today's society then all children will be physically, emotionally, and socially, and mentally destroyed.

The scenario that I chose to write my report on was on a high school student whom suffered from bullying from students of his own school grade level. I feel that the bullying could have been prevented if only the parents were more involved and attend to his child's needs. However, looking back if i was Tom's dad/mom i would have been very well involved and actually taking the time to figure out if everything was okay. Even, if it was the simplest thing, but in my mind I would have known that everything was right. On the other hand, I believe that the school should have done something about it, rather to just let the student bully him knowing that he didn't have any faults. The school sure failed its responsibilities because they weren't aware of what was going on in Tom's life or educational life.

Now that this has happened, there are many ways to prevent children from being cyberbullied. As teachers and parents we must discourage our students/child from responding to cyberbullying. They tend to crave attention, etc. Also, monitor the their computer time even if they say they are "playing online games". Especially when having a big range of students in a classroom it is a great idea to create big poster boards saying why or how children are emotionally hurt through bullies. Then, we can also have a role play with students so that they can see that bullying is not a good thing, rather it makes people feel less of a persona and can scar them for life.

That being said, we must implement the fact that we as future teacher must be on the alert and become self involved in our students life because when we finally do; we might be to late...
